The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud was introduced in 1955 and produced through 1966. Designed by J.P. Bletchley, the Silver Cloud replaced the Silver Dawn and represented a major change from the pre-war models. While it retained the traditional grille and headlamps, and still hinted at the separate fenders seen on previous models, it made Rolls' first move towards a more modern and integrated design. The body was sleek with light weight aluminum panels for the doors, the bonnet/hood and, the boot/trunk lid.
The Silver Cloud I was produced from 1955 through 1959 and, the total series I production was 2,238. It retained the proven 4.9L six-cylinder motor with twin SU carburetors added beginning in 1957 and a 4-speed automatic transmission. Drum brakes are hydraulic and power-assisted with twin master cylinders. Front suspension is independent with semi-elliptic springs, leather wrapped, in the rear. Power steering and air-conditioning, included on this late production Series I car, were optional.
The well-maintained Series I Silver Cloud drives smoothly and is mechanically sound in all respects. It can be driven anywhere with confidence and enjoyed for special events, local car shows and the pure pleasure it offers. This model has enough power to be used on modern roads with the style that only a Rolls-Royce can offer.
